Correctional Officer Jorge Pena, a dedicated member of the Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) team, passed away on March 24, 2026.

He began his career with CDCR in February 2008, first reporting to the Department of Juvenile Justice. In October 2013, he transferred to KVSP, where he continued to serve with commitment and pride until his passing.
“Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones.” said KVSP. “Jorge will be missed by his fellow co-workers and all who knew him.”
Outside of work, Jorge was an avid sports fan, especially devoted to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Las Vegas Raiders. He loved spending time with his children, traveling, and taking family vacations.
Visitation and Rosary will be held on April 9, 2026, at Peters Funeral Home, 844 E. Lerdo Hwy, Shafter, CA 93263. Visitation will begin at 3 pm., with the Rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral services will take place on April 10, 2026, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 1300 9th Place, Wasco, CA 93280. Burial will follow immediately at Wasco Memorial Park, 300 Leonard Ave., Wasco, CA 93280.
The family requests that staff who choose not to wear their uniform please honor Jorge by wearing Dodger blue instead of black.
