Calipatria State Prison hosted Grilling Up Gratitude, a staff appreciation event recognizing their dedication, professionalism and commitment.
The July 1 event provided an opportunity to celebrate staff and thank them for their continued service in support of CDCR’s mission.
Also marking the Fourth of July holiday, the Administration Building and staff entrance were transformed with patriotic red, white and blue decorations.
American flags were draped throughout the area, creating a welcoming atmosphere while honoring our nation’s independence and reflecting the spirit of service, unity and pride shared by our workforce.
Despite the 100-degree temperatures, employees came together to enjoy the celebration and the camaraderie it inspired.
Leaders get behind the grill

Members of the institution’s management team, joined by Health Care Access Leadership, stepped behind the grill. They prepared and served freshly grilled cheeseburgers to staff. Their participation demonstrated a shared commitment to recognizing employees and expressing appreciation for the outstanding work performed across all disciplines.
The event also featured a staff appreciation prize drawing, bringing additional excitement to the celebration. This also provided an opportunity to thank employees for their continued dedication and hard work.

A special highlight of the event was the recognition of employees celebrating 25 years of state service. These dedicated professionals were acknowledged for their remarkable commitment, years of exemplary service and invaluable contributions to the department. Their experience, professionalism and dedication continue to strengthen our institution and serve as an example of excellence for others.
The celebration also recognized the Supervisor of the Month. This recognition reflects the importance of leading by example and fostering a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment.
“Events such as Grilling Up Gratitude reinforce the importance of taking time to recognize the people who make our institution successful,” organizers said. “Every employee plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, security and effective operation of the institution. Their dedication is the foundation of our continued success.”
Acting Warden Ernesto Bustamante thanked those who made the event happen.

“Thank you to everyone who helped organize this memorable event, including the management team and Health Care Access Leadership, whose efforts made the day possible. Most importantly, thank you to all of our employees for your unwavering professionalism, resilience and commitment to public service,” Bustamante said. “Your hard work and dedication are sincerely appreciated, and we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.”
