CDCR’s Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) hosted its second softball fundraising event July 11 to support Special Olympics Northern California.
DAPO and law enforcement partners from across the region gathered for the friendly game. The day included team building and community connection, all to support a meaningful cause.
Fundraising from the event is still ongoing through July 31. This year’s game, featuring staff from DAPO’s field office and headquarters unit, was won by the Hyped-Up Hitters. They defeated The Get Right Crew, 11-4.
DAPO Director Bryan Bishop said events such as these show how staff are involved in the community.
“It’s a good opportunity for us to demonstrate to the community that DAPO is not only a part of CDCR, but it’s really one of the most outward facing parts of CDCR,” he said. “We are really committed to building up events like the Special Olympics.”
The event included vendor booths, prizes, a barbeque lunch, music, and a special tribute honoring fallen DAPO Agent Joshua Byrd. Special Olympics athletes played an important role throughout the event, serving as co-captains and co-emcees.
The national anthem was performed by Parole Agent Ricardo Corona.
