RJ Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) recently hosted an event to connect staff with community resources. The event was held in honor of September’s Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month.

Participating organizations include the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the San Diego Zoo and additional community partners.
The initiative introduced staff members to supportive outlets and effective coping tools.

Guest speaker Donovan Chronkite shared his personal journey as a survivor to promote suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

San Diego Fire Department Capt. Jason Shanley also performed the bagpipes in remembrance of CDCR staff who have been lost to suicide.
Through a drawing sponsored by generous partners, two participants received complimentary tickets to Disneyland Park and the San Diego Zoo, providing opportunities for meaningful time with family and friends.
