Inmate Apprehended after Walking Away from Los Angeles Reentry Facility

COMPTON — Special agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today apprehended inmate Juan C. Gomez, who walked away from a Los Angeles reentry facility last night.

Following various leads, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety located Gomez at Leuders Park in Compton. Gomez was taken into custody without incident at 2:18 p.m.

Gomez will be transported to California Rehabilitation Center in Norco. His case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of escape charges.

On June 4, 2020, at 8:57 p.m. staff members at the Male Community Reentry Program facility were notified that Gomez left the building without authorization.

Gomez was received from Los Angeles County on June 6, 2019, with a four-year sentence for first-degree burglary. He was scheduled to be released to parole supervision in July 2020.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based facility without permission have been apprehended.
