LOS ANGELES— An inmate participating in a Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) who walked away from the community reentry facility in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 22 was apprehended in the Hyde Park area on Dec. 29 at approximately 12:12 p.m.
Utilizing various investigative techniques, special agents from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Office of Correctional Safety (OCS)-Special Service Unit, Rancho Cucamonga with the assistance of the Long Beach Police Department, and the OCS-Fugitive Apprehension Team, Los Angeles were able to locate and successfully apprehend Jones Booker without incident.
Booker is being transported to California Institution for Men and the case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges.
At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Dec. 22 it was determined that Booker had departed the MCRP without authorization and an emergency search was initiated. Within minutes, agents from CDCR’s OCS were dispatched and notification was made to local law enforcement agencies.
Booker was received by CDCR from Los Angeles County on Oct. 20, 2019, with a two-year, eight-month sentence for two counts of first-degree burglary. Martin arrived at the MCRP on Nov. 24, 2020.
The MCRP allows eligible offenders committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the re-entry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for male offenders who have approximately one year left to serve. The program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.
Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
