Inmate Walks Away from Growlersburg Conservation Camp

Georgetown, CA – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are looking for a minimum-security inmate who walked away from Growlersberg Conservation (fire) Camp in El Dorado County last night.

During an inmate count at around 11 p.m. staff discovered inmate Edgar Benitez, 25, not in his assigned housing area. A search of the camp buildings and grounds was immediately conducted. Benitez was last seen at 10 p.m. on July 24 during a head count. CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety, CAL FIRE, and local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are assisting in the search.

Benitez is a Hispanic male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was received from Los Angeles County on Dec. 26, 2017. He was sentenced to serve nine years for driving under the influence causing bodily injury/death.

Anyone who sees Benitez should contact 911 or law enforcement authorities immediately.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
