Condemned Incarcerated Person Micky Ray Cage Dies

SALINAS – Micky Ray Cage died on May 3, 2023 while incarcerated at Salinas Valley
State Prison (SVSP). He was discovered unresponsive in his cell and pronounced
deceased by medical staff at 7:30 a.m. The Monterey County Coroner’s Office will
determine his official cause of death.

Cage was sentenced to CDCR as condemned on Nov. 14, 2003 in Riverside County for
first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by ex-felon.

SVSP opened in May 1996 in Monterey County. The institution provides long-term
housing for 2,892 minimum- and maximum-custody male inmates and employs
approximately 1,600 people.
