Incarcerated Person Who Walked Away from Male Community Reentry Program Apprehended

SAN DIEGO – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced an incarcerated person who walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program in San Diego on Aug. 15, 2023, has been apprehended.  

At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Aug. 16, Special Agents took 40-year-old Rosario Castro into custody in San Diego without incident. He was transported to Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. His case will be referred to the San Diego County District Attorney for consideration of escape charges. 

Castro was sentenced to CDCR from San Diego County on Feb. 6, 2020, to serve four years for Carjacking and Vehicle Theft Second Striker. Since 1977, 99 percent of all incarcerated people who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
