Man Who Walked Away from Acton Conservation Camp Apprehended

PLANADA –California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced an offender who walked away on Oct. 19. 2023 from the from Acton Conservation Camp in Los Angeles County has been apprehended.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2023, CDCR special agents took 38-year-old Julian OchoaRuiz, into custody without incident in Planada, CA. He will be rehoused in a higher security area at Valley State Prison in Chowchilla, CA and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for consideration of escape charges.

OchoaRuiz was admitted from Merced County on Feb. 14, 2023, to serve a three-year, eight-month, sentence for Discharge of a Firearm Inhabited Dwelling and Evading or Attempting to Evade a Peace Officer.  

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
