Incarcerated Man Who Walked Away from San Diego Reentry Program Apprehended

SAN DIEGO – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced an incarcerated person who walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in San Diego on March 15, 2024, was taken into custody on March 24, 2024.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., Quintin G. Wilkerson, 53, was arrested in the city of Escondido by the Escondido Police Department following a short foot pursuit. Special agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety then transported Wilkerson to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. His case will be referred to the San Diego County District Attorney for possible escape charges.

Wilkerson was received from San Diego County on Feb. 22, 2023. He was sentenced to six years for corporal injury on specific persons resulting in traumatic condition with an enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury involving domestic violence. Wilkerson has been housed at the MCRP in San Diego since Jan. 23, 2024.

The MCRP allows eligible people committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the reentry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for men who have two years or less left to serve. The program links participants to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
