CDCR Seeking Incarcerated Man Who Walked Away from a Los Angeles Reentry Program

LOS ANGELES – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are seeking a person who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in Los Angeles on April 8, 2024.

Rafael Rodriguez, 26, was reported missing at approximately 7:40 p.m. after an alert was received regarding the removal of an ankle monitor. Staff immediately initiated an emergency count and confirmed Rodriguez was missing. A search was quickly initiated and CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety and local law enforcement agencies are assisting.

Rodriguez is 5′ 9″ tall, weighs 170 pounds and has brown eyes and hair. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a black sweatshirt with a hood.

Rodriguez was received from Orange County on March 13, 2019. He was sentenced to twelve years for kidnapping, inflicting great bodily injury with an enhancement of the use of a firearm, and assault with a firearm. Rodriguez has been housed at the MCRP in Los Angeles since Jan. 18, 2024.

Anyone who sees Rodriguez or has knowledge of his whereabouts should contact law enforcement or call 9-1-1

MCRPs allow eligible people committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in a reentry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for male offenders who have two years or less left to serve. The program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
