SAN DIEGO – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today apprehended an incarcerated person who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in San Diego County on April 18, 2025.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety Special Agents apprehended Nick A. Lopez at the San Diego Middletown trolly station without incident. Lopez will be rehoused at a prison and his case will be referred to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of escape charges.
Lopez was most recently received from San Diego County on Sept. 13, 2023. He was sentenced to five years, four months for vehicle theft with prior vehicle-related theft conviction and possessing/owning a firearm by felon/addict, both second-strike offenses. He has been housed at MCRP-San Diego since March 4, 2025.
Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended.
