INCREASE OF MONEY AMOUNT ALLOWED INTO THE INSTITUTIONS BY VISITORS

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) recognize the need to
increase the allowable dollar amount for adult and minor visitors to purchase a “reasonable”
meal for themselves and the inmate.

Based on requests from families who visit our prisons, an analysis was completed relative to
. the cost of vending machine items. The analysis revealed an increase in the cost of vending
machine items since the last survey conducted in 2007.

Effective immediately, the dollar amount allowed into the institution is $70 for each adult
visitor and $40 for each minor visitor. The requirement remains that the money will be in
coins or one dollar bills only.

The Department is currently revising Department Operations Manual, Section 54020.15,
Allowable Visitor Items, to incorporate the change.

The Department continues to recognize the value of inmate visitation to help in maintaining
healthy family and community relationships, and preparing inmates for successful release and
rehabilitation process.

Wardens please share this memorandum with your institution staff, inmates, visitors and your
local Inmate Family Council.

If you have any questions, contact Dan Ross, Associate Warden, Female Offender Programs
and Services/Special Housing, at (916) 323-2812.
