Access to Institution Affected
CDCR urges those traveling to our institutions to plan ahead for a safe trip.
Before heading to an institution for an in-person visit, download the Quick Map app or visit https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ for up-to-the-minute information on road conditions, traffic, closures, chain control, and more.
If an institution must cancel visiting due to conditions such as weather, those with an appointment will receive a notice through the Visitation Scheduling Application (VSA).
Visitation Information
Visitor processing will open at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Fridays, 7:15 a.m. on Saturdays, and 7:15 a.m. on Sundays, starting with appointments. Once all appointments have been processed, walk-in visitors will be allowed on a first come, first serve basis and determined on available visiting space. The maximum number of visitors per inmate is 5. Kids under the age of 2 are welcome. Inmates are only allowed (1) visit per day. Please utilize the inmate locator to obtain any inmate housing updates.
Please remember to bring an extra set of clothing in the car in case you need to change.
Chewing gum inside visitor processing and the visiting rooms is strictly PROHIBITED.

In-Person Visitation
Appointment scheduling through VSA opens at 6:00 a.m., 8 days prior; and closes at 12:00 a.m., 5 days prior. Visitors must arrive within 2 hours of their scheduled VSA appt to avoid cancelation. Visitor Processing closes at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays and 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. All visitors must be checked in by 11:30am to visit.
Friday: 11:15 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 7:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Sunday: 7:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Walk-in Visitation Instructions
Friday: 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Sunday: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Overnight Family Visitation Instructions
Family visiting is conducted twice a week, Wednesday – Friday and Friday – Sunday. Please arrive at Visitor Processing between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. If you are going to be later than 11:00 a.m., please call Visitor Processing to notify a staff member.
Please only pack essentials for your family visit. Excess items will not be permitted.
Required Documentation for Family Visitation:
- Valid form of identification.
- Original marriage certificate/Domestic Partnership certificate.
- Birth Certificates for all minors and/or siblings of the inmate (including adults).
Minors must be an immediate family member and accompanied by an adult who is an approved immediate family member and must have a current notarized written approval from a parent and/or legal guardian, if the accompanying adult is not the minor’s parent or legal guardian. The notarized note must indicate that the visit is a family overnight visit. If required documentation is not provided, your family visit is subject to cancellation.
Non-Contact Visitation
Appointment scheduling opens through VSA at 6:00 a.m., 8 days prior; and closes at 12:00 a.m., 5 days prior. Visitors must arrive at least 30 minutes prior of their scheduled appt to avoid cancelation. Non-Contact visits must be scheduled through VSA, unless the inmate is housed in a general population (GP) or enhanced outpatient program (EOP) unit. Non-contact visits will have a maximum time limit of 1 hour. Visitor Processing closes at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays and 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Incarcerated people who are still in reception (recently admitted to CDCR or transferred between prisons) or who are segregated (i.e., Administrative Segregation/Restricted Housing, Security Housing Units, Adjustment Centers, pending specific rules violation report charges, or assigned to Behavior Management Units) are restricted to non-contact visits. Non-contact visits occur with a glass partition between the incarcerated person and his/her visitors.
Birthday Celebration
CSP-Sacramento is excited to announce our birthday gift giving event for visiting families and their incarcerated loved one to enjoy. If you have a child whose birthday is on or near a visiting day, we invite you to participate in bringing a new unwrapped gift, with receipt and gift bag, to Visitor Processing, at one (1) week minimum, prior to your planned visitation date. Gifts will be for minors under the age of 18 and must remain under $30.00. Gifts will be brought to the visiting room for your loved one to present to their minor visitor on your preferred visitation date.

Interested in making a donation to visiting? Talk to Visitor Processing staff about eligible items you can donate. An authorization form will need to be completed, of all items donated, for approval.
