In person visiting is now three (3) days a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Video Visits will no longer be offered.

Visitor Screening

Visitors shall be required to submit to metal detection devices (walk-thru detector and/or hand-held detector) and a thorough search of all personal items, including inspection of a wheelchair and other assistive devices prior to being allowed to visit an inmate. All visitors shall successfully pass through the detector unless a documented medical condition or disability exists that would preclude the visitor from passing through the detector. Additional screening may be required such as an unclothed body search and may cause a delay or even prevent visiting. Consent shall be obtained from the visitor prior to the search by signing a CDCR 888, Notice of Request for search, giving consent to staff to search. Visitor/s do not have to consent to an unclothed body search; however, your visit shall be denied for that day.

Visitation Information

NO CELLPHONES OR ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES are allowed on State grounds even if you are not visiting.

Please plan accordingly with extra clothing.

Please note that no umbrellas, beanies or hats are permitted within the facility. However, visitors may bring hats if prior approval has been obtained.

No Blue denim of any kind, Clothes shall not resemble what an incarcerated person or Officer would wear. No military wear or camouflage unless active duty. Shoes must have a solid sole. No spaghetti straps, halter, bare midriff clothing; No clothing exposing the breast, genitalia or buttocks area; No wigs, hairpieces, extensions or other headpieces except for medical reasons and with prior approval; No skirts, dresses or shorts that expose more than two inches above the knee. NO EXCESSIVLY TIGHT, FORM FITTING CLOTHING or TRANSPARENT CLOTHING or you will be asked to change. Leggings are permitted as long as the top article of clothing (top or dress) covers the lower anatomical body features and are not sheer or transparent. Appropriate under garments shall be worn at all times. Bras with underwire are not permitted but you MUST wear a bra.

ALL Jewelry must be removed prior to be processed. If jewelry cannot clear metal detector and cannot be removed, you will be denied entry for the day.

Visitor(s) with minor(s) must bring a certified copy of the minor’s birth certificate(s) for each visit. If you are not the minor’s parent/legal guardian, you must bring a certified copy of the minor’s birth certificate and an original notarized letter from the parent/legal guardian, giving you permission to bring the minor onto state grounds to visit the inmate and must not be more than 1 year old. Only allowed one form of ID, must be on you at all times.

Visitors are allowed to bring the following items for infants (0-12 months) or toddlers (12 mo.-36 mo.) only:

A transparent diaper bag, any combination of 6 factory sealed single serving packets of baby formula or four transparent plastic baby bottles or cups that are empty or contain premixed formula, milk, juice or water and breast pump and associated supplies and refrigerated or frozen breastmilk.

Six non glass container of baby food, 2 plastic spoons, 10 disposable diapers, 1 sealed package of baby wipes, 3 changes of clothing, 2 pacifiers, 3 burp cloths, diaper cream, a baby carrier or wrap.

Visitors will no longer be allowed to bring in any clothing for FV that resembles Incarcerated Person clothing coming into the FV units. This includes white socks, white or grey shirts or shorts.

At this time, we have a vendor for food and drinks. Effective July 1, 2024- $100 dollars per adult visitor and $50 dollars per minor. Only quarters and single dollar bills allowed.

All Dr. Notes must have either a live signature or a DocuSign signature from your physician.

All visitors must be pre-approved before entering Ironwood State Prison.

Visitors are required to update their visiting applications every TWO (2) years. Applications that are altered or destroyed will be disapproved. Applications must be completely filled out with all questions answered. Incomplete applications will be disapproved.

CDCR urges those traveling to our institutions to plan ahead for a safe trip.

If an institution must cancel visiting due to conditions such as weather, those with an appointment will receive a notice through the Visitation Scheduling Application (VSA). If you plan on participating in a walk-in visit, please contact the institution beforehand.

Inmates housed in quarantine/outbreak units will be eligible to program if they consent to Point of Contact COVID-19 testing on days 1,3,5 and 7, however this program DOES NOT apply to overnight family visiting.

All marriages are in person and require at least one approved visitor witness.

A maximum of five (5) visitors are permitted to visit at one time. RHU and general non-contact visits are permitted (3) visitors.

Friday visiting to schedule is open from (Thursday 0700 am -Sunday 1159 pm)

Saturday visiting to schedule is open from (Friday 0700-Tuesday 1159pm)

Sunday visiting to schedule is open from (Saturday 0700-Wednesday 1159pm).

Visitors/Loved ones arriving for in person visiting may arrive on Institutional grounds 30 mins prior to the processing time. (Friday 11:30 am, Saturday 7:30 am and Sunday 7:30am). 

FAMILY VISITING

Beginning September 1, 2025, Ironwood State Prison will launch a pilot program for Family Visiting. Of the six (6) available family visiting units located inside the secure perimeter, we will be utilizing the following schedule. Half of the units, three (3) of them, will be processed on Monday’s. The other half of the units, the remaining three (3), will be processed in on Tuesday. This rotation will continue Monday through Friday. The time inside the visit will remain approximately 46 hours.

Schedule will be as follows:

Three families will be processed in on Monday and out on Wednesday.

Three families will be processed in on Tuesday and out on Thursday.

Three families will be processed in on Wednesday and out on Friday.

Three families will be processed in on Thursday and out on Saturday.

Three families will be processed in on Friday and out on Sunday.

This schedule will allow for faster processing times, which will lead to more time spent in the visit for the visitor and the incarcerated person. This schedule will also allow for more flexibility in scheduling for the families with five total start days each week to work around work and school.

As a reminder, paperwork must be received 72 hours prior to your scheduled visit. Failure to return all paperwork on time will result in the cancellation of your scheduled family visit.   

Starting August 1, 2025, All Dr notes must be detailed in what food you are requesting to bring in for visitor’s medical restrictions for FV. All Dr. Notes must have either a live signature or a DocuSign signature from your physician.

Walk-in visitors will receive a numbered pass per family and be processed in the order they arrive.

SPecial events

Emails will only be accepted on the four Main Holidays, Thanksgiving Christmas New Years Day and 4th of July. All other holidays appointments must be made through VSA.
