How to Use Webex to Join a Video Visit

Join your video visit from your computer, mobile device, phone, or a video conferencing system. You may pick the one that works best for you. All video visits are secure. The communication is encrypted and CDCR processes ensure that approved visitors are validated and only those approved visitors may join the visit. 


Join from Windows or MacOS

Step 1

Open your email invite and click the green Join meeting button.

If you don’t have a meeting invite, you have not been scheduled for a video visit this week and will need to send in a new request. Please visit https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/visitors/ for more information.

Step 2

If this is the first time you’re joining a Webex meeting, Webex automatically downloads the app.

  • NOTE: If you don’t want to install anything, click Join from your browser and proceed to Step 3.
  • Click the installer file to install the app.
  • If the automatic download didn’t work, click Download the app again.

If you join from a Linux computer or Chromebook, you won’t be prompted to install anything. The meeting simply opens in your browser.

Step 3

Enter your name and email address you used to schedule the video visit, and click Next.

Step 4

If you’re asked for a meeting password, enter the meeting password – it’s in your email invitation – and click Next. (Screenshot below is just a sample, please do not copy this password.)

Step 5

In the preview window, you can make sure your audio and video sound and look good before you join the meeting. First, choose how you want to hear.

Choose how you want to hear the audio in the meeting:

Use computer audio—Use your computer with a headset or speakers. This is the default audio connection type.

You can change your headset, speakers, and microphone.

Step 7

If you want to join the meeting with your audio muted, click Mute. You’ll see a unmute button when your microphone is muted, Click Unmute when you want to speak in the meeting.

Step 8

Start your video. Before you join or start a meeting you can choose the settings you use for video in the meeting. Click Start video when you want to show your video.

If you’re happy with the audio and video settings that you chose for this meeting, you can save them for your next meeting.

Now that all settings are chosen, click on Join Meeting. The meeting will launch in the Webex client.


Join from iOS or Android mobile device

If you’re on the go, you can join your video visit from your Apple or Android phone, tablet or Apple watch using the Webex mobile app.
Note: You are still required to meet the visitation requirements during the meeting.

Step 1

Download the Cisco Webex Meetings app from the App store in an Apple device or from the Google Play Store in an Android device

After download is complete, Open after the Webex Meetings app and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Statement.

Step 2

Open the meeting invite from your mailbox and tap Join meeting when it’s time to join the meeting.

Step 3

Enter your name and email address, then tap OK. If necessary, enter the meeting password—it’s in the email invitation—and tap OK

Step 4

When the Webex Meetings app opens, your video is turned off by default. Tap Start video to preview how you’ll look to others before you join the meeting.

Step 5

Audio settings: Use Internet for audio (default) ̶ Use your phone with a headset or speakers.

Step 6

Tap join.
