Updated vaccination and booster requirements

For institution and facility staff

This memorandum updates the COVID-19 vaccination and booster requirements for California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS), and Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) institution/facility staff and supersedes the January 28, 2022 memorandum entitled, Updated Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination, Booster, and Testing for Institution/Facility Staff and the August 23, 2021 memorandum entitled, Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines and Testing for Institution Staff. The term “staff” herein refers to CDCR, CCHCS, and DJJ civil service employees, health care registry providers, and contract workers who work in CDCR institutions and DJJ facilities.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced the rescinding of the August 5, 2021, December 22, 2021 and February 22, 2022 orders.

Effective April 3, 2023, CDPH will no longer require COVID-19 vaccination and booster for staff. The current COVID-19 vaccine mandate (primary series) for staff working in the Skilled Nursing Facilities of Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF), remain in place pursuant to federal guidance.

This directive will be regularly reviewed and revised as necessary based on current circumstances within CDCR/CCHCS and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and CDPH.
