The honor guard from Central Valley prisons attended a annual Madera County memorial honoring fallen officers.

The Central Valley Honor Guard, made up of members from Valley State Prison and Central California Women’s Facility, attended the 12th annual Madera County Law Enforcement Memorial Service at Courthouse Park in Madera.

The event honors Madera County officers who lost their lives in the line of duty since 1919. The list includes seven men and one woman.

Law enforcement officers from across Madera County attended. Sheriff J. Varney spoke at the ceremony.

“Well it is one of those things,” Varney said. “You learn to deal with it, you never get over it, and each year when you think about those folks, it doesn’t get easier. I hope no more names will be added to the list.”
