
James “Big Jim” Myers, a retired correctional officer, passed away Jan. 11, 2020.
Myers, a California native and US Navy veteran, began his CDCR career at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in January 1997. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in February, he reported to High Desert State Prison.
In December 2001, he transferred to Folsom State Prison, where he remained until retiring in February 2012.
After returning from the military in 1972, he worked with his brother building houses as a journeyman concrete finisher. He also enjoyed gold panning on the Bear and American Rivers.
James Myers is survived by his wife of 34 years, Vena, and four children. He is also survived by his sister and brother as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
