On Sept. 17, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Del Norte received a $21,796 check. The money was presented by the Pelican Bay Athletic Organization, a charitable group of prison staff. The funds were raised through inmate food sales.

According to CASA, “The program provides assistance for children struggling with homelessness, poverty and abuse. CASA of Del Norte will support and assist children under the jurisdiction of the Dependency Court by providing qualified volunteers to advocate in the child’s best interest. CASA believes in the Gift of Voice, the Gift of Hope and the Gift of a Future.”
