A Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP) employee group last month raised $3,700 for the families of victims of a fatal car accident.

The PVSP Employee Action Committee (EAC) held a fundraiser for the families, who lost two adults and seven children in the accident.

EAC members rose above the call by preparing and selling burritos and a variety of baked goods.

The food sold out. EAC’s extraordinary fundraising efforts, coupled with PVSP staff participation, raised $3,700.

Editor’s note: Authorities said the seven children and two adults were killed Jan. 1 in a head-on collision on State Route 33 between Avenal and Coalinga. The children were between 6 and 15 years old. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
