Avenal prison leadership thanks staff for dedication

Three people stand beside a barbecue grill.
Working the grill were Lawrence Mendoza, Edris Diaz and Justin Nugent.

Avenal Prison thanks staff for hard work and dedication every day, but a recent tri-tip sandwich lunch and multiple vendors was special.

The Employee Action Committee (EAC), with donations from the Avenal State Prison Executive Team and other prison groups, honored staff. To show thanks to staff, all three Avenal Prison watches were provided a lunch.  Special guests included Avenal Mayor Alvaro Preciado, Avenal City Manager Antony Lopez, and the Avenal Chief of Police Rusty Stivers.

Some of the vendors attending were Eleventh Avenue Bakery, Aflac, State Farm Insurance, Eagle Funding, Butler’s Uniform, California Peace Officers Protection Alliance, Reyna Del Bling, Avenal Animal Shelter, Employee Club of California, Sunrun Solar, Dippin’ Dots, and The Cupcake Route.

Staff were afforded the opportunity to attend the Staff Appreciation Event, check out all the vendors and pick-up a bagged lunch.

The EAC and Executive Team prepared the lunches with more than 300 pounds of tri-tip being barbecued by Justin Nugent, Warehouse Manager II, and Lawrence Mendoza, Canteen Manager II.

All Covid-19 protocols were followed by staff and vendors during the event.
