The CDCR Office of Research (OR) has created The Data Concierge Service (DCS) for CDCR population data and demographic information serving both internal and external stakeholders.
The Office of Research, DCS, oversees and monitors data requests while ensuring that published data aligns with CDCR business rules. When complete, DCS disseminates data to stakeholders.
Other functions include:
- reporting of workload metrics
- generating ad hoc reports for executive management
- and utilizing interactive dashboards to answer routine requests.
This allows OR staff to focus on crucial and mission-critical data requests.
In Fiscal Year 2020-21, DCS received 2,281 standardized and 804 specialized requests, for an overall total of 3,085 requests. At year-end, 2,009 standardized and 741 specialized requests were processed and closed, totaling 2,750 requests. Meanwhile, a small percentage of requests are still ongoing.
An example of OR’s close partnerships with internal and external stakeholders was the production of lists of individuals potentially eligible for expedited release during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While those releases were taking place, OR was asked to produce eligibility lists that went to a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including:
- Office of Public and Employee Communications
- Office of Legal Affairs
- Department of Finance
- Department of Justice
- Chief Probation Officers of California
- and other law enforcement agencies.
These lists were vital to the safety of the population and communities, as well as to track individuals who were eligible to be released, as well as those who were actually released and their reason for being released.
