Huel Morphis, retired AW, passes away

Huel Morphis, a retired correctional administrator, passed away January 7, 2022.

He began his correctional career in 1954, according to his family, moving around the state as he promoted. In March 1975, he accepted a Career Executive Appointment at Folsom State Prison. In 1985, he was promoted to Associate Warden at Folsom.

Later that same year, he was transferred to California Correctional Center (CCC) in Susanville, where he remained until retiring in 1986. From December 1987 to May 1988, he worked at CCC as a retired annuitant Captain. From 1995 to 1998, he returned as a retired annuitant Associate Governmental Program Analyst. He also authored the book, “Prison Life: My 32 Years Behind Bars.”

“We extend our most sincere condolences to his wife, the Morphis family, loved ones, and friends,” according a statement released by the prison.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., May 7, 2022, at 470-120 Richmond Road in Susanville.
