Retired Correctional Officer Kenneth “Kenny” John Townsend passed away April 27, 2022.

A California native, Townsend played professional baseball, drafted during his senior year of high school to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played professionally for eight years.

After leaving baseball, he joined the department as a correctional officer in April 1993.

His first assignment was the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad. He later transferred to Sierra Conservation Center where he remained until retiring in December 2012.

“Kenny will be dearly missed by all who knew him,” according to a statement issued by Sierra Conservation Center. “At this profound time of mourning, please keep the Townsend Family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The family held services in June.
