Edwin Prady, retired officer, passes away

Edwin “Big Ed” Prady, a retired correctional officer, passed away March 14, 2022. He worked for the department from 1984 until 2006.

He began his career in October 1984 at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center. After graduating the academy, he reported to the California Medical Facility. In September 1986, he transferred to Folsom State Prison.

Prady transferred to Northern California Women’s Facility in March 1988. In July 1994, he transferred to the Statewide Transportation Unit serving on the buses as a vehicle maintenance officer. He later joined the Extradition Bureau where he remained until retiring in July 2006.

“A gentle giant of a man, Edwin ‘Ed’ Prady will be remembered for his infectious laugh, great story telling, but more importantly, his big heart,” according to a statement issued by those who worked with him.
