On April 3, Avenal State Prison (ASP) hosted a job fair for psychology doctoral students from Alliant International University (AIU), Fresno Campus.

Dr. Liang, Associate Professor and Program Director of the Clinical Psychology Program at California School of Professional Psychology/AIU, helped coordinate the tour.

The event included an educational seminar provided by ASP Associate Warden Edward Burden and O’Brian Bailey, Lt. James Campbell, Senior Psychologist Specialist Lisa Dobrozdravic, and Chief of Mental Health Grigoriy Shapirshtyen. Students also toured ASP.

During the ASP job fair, participants learned about working as a mental health clinician in a correctional environment. Many expressed interest in working at CDCR in the future. Students also expressed interest in completing practicums, internships, and dissertations within CDCR.

ASP hopes to continue hosting collaborative events with local universities to convey the multiple career opportunities offered to mental health professionals within CDCR.

ASP’s Mental Health Department also thanked ASP Warden Martin Gamboa and Chief Executive Officer Jaron Nash, who inspired and encouraged the collaborative effort.
