SCC holds active shooter training

SCC active shooter training focused on active threats, lock down procedures, and industry standard active threat alarm response.

Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) In-Service Training Office conducted an active shooter and lock down procedure training exercise. Participants in the exercise included:

  • SCC non-custody staff
  • custody staff
  • Fire Department
  • and medical staff.

Certified Alarm Response Instructors and Crisis Response Team Entry Operations Instructors directed participants through the exercise.

Staff working in administration buildings and armed post custody staff received an emergency operations plan. The plan focused on active threats, lock down procedures, and industry standard active threat alarm response.

After a classroom instructional period, staff reported to their respective work areas and the drill began.

Prompted by simulated gunfire sounds, non-custody staff conducted a lock down drill and custody staff conducted an alarm response drill. This verified the safety of outside areas and allowed the safe evacuation of staff from the previously threatened area.

Once staff deemed the scene safe, SCC institutional firefighters evacuated simulated casualties and SCC medical staff triaged and treated them.

Overall, staff approved of the training exercises. There were no injuries, illnesses, or incidents reported during the training drill.
