Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) students took part in graduation ceremonies after earning their Bachelor of Arts degrees from Sacramento State University.
The May 24 graduation was live-streamed for families who could not attend.
Research shows correctional education is a powerful tool to reduce recidivism.
“Sacramento State has been an outstanding partner. This is the first graduation ceremony celebrating this significant accomplishment,” according to MCSP. “The commitment from the staff and students at these institutions has been tremendous. It’s a truly effective collaboration between correctional officers, teachers, administrators, and Sac State faculty.”
A local TV news station, KCRA, also covered the graduation at Mule Creek State Prison.
The MCSP students were joined by family members for the Sacramento State University ceremony. The event was also live streamed for viewing by families that could not attend the Sacramento State University ceremony.
