VSP celebrates Defy graduates

Valley State Prison (VSP) incarcerated recently completed and graduated from the Defy Ventures Entrepreneurship Program. Defy Ventures is an organization that has been beating the odds for nearly a decade. The program helps formerly incarcerated individuals transform their lives through entrepreneurship.

Defy has been providing this program at VSP since 2016. This is VSP’s sixth cohort graduation. Two hundred and thirty VSP incarcerated have completed this program to date. A certificate of completion is awarded to each individual who finishes the program. The incarcerated participate in a business pitch competition where they pitch and sell business ideas to Defy staff and invited guests.

Defy provides business education, mentorship, and training to equip individuals with the skills they need to become entrepreneurs. The program recognizes the potential in every individual, regardless of their past mistakes. Defy is changing the narrative for the incarcerated by leveraging entrepreneurship as a tool for economic empowerment.
