For the first time since 2021, the Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp (PGYCC) crew responded to a fire in Nevada County.

PGYCC Fire Crew 1 was dispatched to the Highway Fire burning near the town of Washington. The fire started last Wednesday, burning more than 45 acres before being mostly contained. All evacuation orders have been lifted and no structures were lost in the fire.

Both CDCR and CALFIRE staff say they are proud of the firefighters’ hard work and the dedication they show every day.

As of January 2023, the CDCR Division of Adult Institutions (DAI) maintains the PGYCC in Amador County. It screens and accepts youths aged 18 and older from counties who contract with CDCR-DAI.
