NKSP celebrates 31 education graduates

North Kern State Prison (NKSP) celebrated their education graduates in a recent ceremony at the institution. The ceremony celebrated incarcerated GED and Bakersfield College graduates.

Incarcerated students received recognition their accomplishments and received diplomas.

Recognized during the graduation included:

  • 31 total graduates
  • Four Associate of Arts college degrees
  • 26 GED diplomas
  • and one high school diploma.

Principal Ross Zimmerman said 157 incarcerated students earned a GED at NKSP during the 2022-23 school year.  NKSP population are also earning certifications in the Vocational Electrical Works program or the Vocational Small Engine Repair program. 

“Congratulation to the incarcerated students on their achievements. I am very proud of my education team for their commitment to the vision and mission of CDCR. I encourage the population at NKSP to continue to set positive goals for themselves. Take advantage of the education and other rehabilitative programs available to you,” said Warden Kevin Hixon.
