Folsom State Prison (FSP), collaborating with Between the Lines, hosted a California Model community event on Oct. 17.
A recreational and educational therapy program, Between the Lines, brings together diverse groups to support rehabilitation through sports. The event focuses specifically on the profound connections formed on the basketball court.
Transcending Folsom prison’s walls, Between the Lines united players, spectators, and prominent CDCR officials including Secretary Jeff Macomber and FSP Warden (A) Tracy Johnson.
It was a day filled with entertainment, camaraderie, and self-reflection.
The event included:
- Energetic music setting the tone for a day of positivity and unity.
- Engaging basketball drills that showcased the participants’ skills and teamwork.
- Thrilling basketball games with incarcerated players facing off against volunteers, fostering healthy competition and collaboration.
- A meaningful reflection on accountability, emphasizing personal growth and responsibility.
“We believe that events like these build bridges within our institution ultimately contributing to the successful reintegration of individuals into society. The occasion was a testament to the power of community engagement and the positive impact it has on rehabilitation,” said Johnson.
