Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) Phillip Mallory recently coordinated a fundraiser to benefit a local hospital’s obstetric department.

Partnered with CCWF employees and Mercy Merced physicians, the group collectively raised $3,000 for the new Mercy Merced Obstetric Emergency department. Many CCWF incarcerated individuals are treated for healthcare in this department.

“Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) Phillip Mallory has been busy standing as a ‘California Model’ of excellence,” said Warden De La Cruz.

Mallory paired the fundraiser with a 73,384 step “Day Hike” to the summit of Mt. Whitney. Contributors rose to the challenge, summiting Mt. Whitney in a day.

He also partnered with the CCWF patient population by holding Friday night town halls to discuss fentanyl overdose.

CCWF population resoundingly embraced the information. Numerous patients shared firsthand accounts of their experiences with toxic substances. They said they are committed to disseminating informational fentanyl pamphlets designed by Mallory.

Mallory hosted UC Davis Doctoral Nursing students on CCWF grounds. The group discussed population management, care management, and opportunities that working with an underserved patient population create.
