The Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) recently celebrated the Transgender Prisoner Day of Action.
This day recognizes the experiences of transgender and all gender-minority incarcerated people. It focuses on working together and breaking through the feelings of isolation brought on by incarceration. The day also helps establish new relationships.
Overall, more than 150 incarcerated individuals attended the Transgender Prisoner Day of Action on Jan. 23. They set goals and helped solidify plans for upcoming self-help workshops.
They broke off into various group circles which included letter writing for legislation changes relating to gender minorities. The Community Resource Manager’s Office provided hamburgers for lunch, generously donated by the Madera Food Bank.
