Parole attends Long Beach Touch a Truck

Parole staff attended the Long Beach Touch a Truck event on April 28.

The Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) staff participated in the eighth annual Touch a Truck event in Long Beach while displaying a parole vehicle.

Free to attend, the event was co-sponsored by Christie Peck; Councilwoman Kristina Duggan, Port of Long Beach; Justin Rudd’s nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT); EDCO, a family-owned waste disposal company; and American Integrated Services.

The April 28 event featured 85 large trucks, tractors, military, public safety, and construction vehicles.

Staff from South Coast Parole District partnered with the Harbor Parole District to attend the popular family friendly event. Touch a Truck is one of the largest public events in the city of Long Beach.

Community events offer a chance for the public to learn about DAPO’s mission in a relaxed atmosphere.

Amid the festivities, parole staff were greeted with curious and supportive community members. Staff participation offered an opportunity for dialogue about community supervision and re-entry.

Parole agents and parole service associates attend events such as these to help foster community integration and promote positive interactions. Parole staff had an opportunity to converse with individuals in a relaxed and non-intimidating atmosphere, humanizing the parole process, dispelling misconceptions and building trust and credibility with the public.
