Mule Creek staff volunteer at Ione Homecoming

The Mule Creek Employee Association volunteering at the Ione Homecoming event.

Mule Creek State Prison staff volunteered their time to take part in the 148th annual Ione Homecoming, a unique community celebration.

A parade, carnival, soapbox derby, music, and horse events are all part of the Homecoming celebration held the second weekend in May.

This year, staff volunteers with the Mule Creek State Prison Employee Association sold sandwiches at the Ione Homecoming to raise funds benefiting charitable causes and staff in need.

The staff teamed up with Correctional Officer Justin Williams, who also runs The County BBQ. They smoked and sold pulled pork sandwiches during the Ione Homecoming.

Every dollar raised during the event benefits prison employees as well as the local community’s charities.

The prison hosts many events throughout the year, inviting employees and local community.

The funds raised by staff volunteers help the prison continue to engage with the community at local events in a positive way.

The Ione Homecoming is put on by the Ione Picnic Association
