Visiting staff at California Institution for Women (CIW), with help from a community organization, helped kids get ready to go back to school.
During August’s National Back to School Month, CIW staff hosted a special celebration for children visiting their incarcerated parents.
To celebrate the new school year, kids took part in crafts, making cards and gifts for their teachers. The children were also given a backpack filled with school supplies donated by not-for-profit organization Isiah’s Rock.
“We wanted to make sure they had everything they needed to successfully start their first day of school,” said staff. “This celebration aimed to support the children and help them feel prepared and excited for the coming school year.”
The children and their parents were grateful for the gesture.
“CIW would like to thank Isiah’s Rock for their generous donation and continued support of family reunification,” staff said.
Events such as these help people serving sentences in state prisons remain involved in their children’s lives.
