Raymond Ibanez, a correctional sergeant at California Institution for Men, passed away Aug. 28, 2024.

He began his state career with California Institution for Men as a correctional supervising cook in August 1992.
In January 1996, he attended the Basical Correctional Officer Academy. After graduating the following month, he reported to Ironwood State Prison as a correctional officer.
In November 1997, he transferred to California Institution for Men. Then, in 2004, he promoted to sergeant.
“He devoted 32 years to the department. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of known and working side by side with him,” according to a statement issued by the institution. “Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
