Shaka Camara, a retired chief support executive, passed away Aug. 30, 2024. After retiring in 2022, he relocated to Montgomery, Alabama.’

Camara began his correctional career as a materials and store specialist in March 1994. Two years later, he was promoted to canteen manager, followed by another promotion to property controller II in 1997.
He then transitioned to the Veterans Department as a Hospital General Services Administrator II on in November 1999.
His state service journey continued at Wasco State Prison where he advanced to correctional health services administrator II in April 2007.
Camara then promoted to the position of chief support executive at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad in November 2011.
He remained at the institution, making significant contributions, until his retirement in July 2022.
“As a leader, Shaka was instrumental in transforming the health care department at the Correctional Training Facility. He played a pivotal role in creating and maintaining standard operating procedures, ensuring the institution remained a leader within CDCR and California Correctional Health Care Services in providing exemplary care to the incarcerated population,” according to a statement issued by the institution. “His visionary leadership not only elevated our standards but also left a lasting impact on our operations and the lives of many.”
The family will be holding a memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, in Montgomery, Alabama.
