Eugene Hogan, retired correctional officer

Eugene Hogan, a retired correctional officer, passed away Sept. 6, 2024. He worked for the department for 27 years.

Eugene Hogan

Hogan began his correctional officer career in November 1988. After graduating the academy, he reported to California State Prison, Corcoran, State Prison in December 1988. A year later, in November 1989, he transferred to the newly activated Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City.

He remained at Pelican Bay until retiring in May 2015.

“Many knew Eugene both personally and professionally. Eugene was respected by his peers and a well-loved member of the Pelican Bay State Prison family. He was a good friend, partner, and a good human being,” according to a statement issued by the institution. “He will be missed by all. We extend our most sincere condolences to retired Correctional Officer Eugene Hogan’s family, friends and loved ones. The family will not be holding services.”
