James Elam, a retired correctional officer, passed away Sept. 20, 2024. He worked for the department for 26 years.
Elam began his career with the department as a cadet in July 1986. After graduating the academy, he reported to California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi in September 1986.
Two years later, he transferred to Chuckawalla Valley State Prison, where he remained in retiring in October 2012.
“James was respected by his peers, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our sincerest condolences to his family. The date and time of his services are unknown at this time,” according to a statement issued by the institution.
