CDCR recruitment visits Reno Rib Cook‑Off

CDCR recruitment was on hand at the Reno Rib Cook-Off, seeking potential officer candidates for High Desert State Prison in nearby Susanville.

More than a culinary event, the 2024 Reno Rib Cook-Off also served as a CDCR recruitment platform. The Peace Officer Recruitment Unit attended the event to help fill vacancies at nearby High Desert State Prison in Susanville.

Recruitment efforts were led by High Desert State Prison Associate Warden Anthony Lane and Lt. Jeremy Micone, the institution’s public information officer. They were joined by Danny Royster, associate governmental program analyst with the recruitment unit.

The event drew over 300,000 people from the region, making it an ideal place to offer recruitment information.

“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to attend the Reno Rib Cook-Off and share information about peace officer careers at High Desert State Prison,” said Lane. “While recruiting for this facility can be demanding, we believe by connecting with local residents and highlighting the benefits of joining our team, we can attract talented individuals passionate about making a positive impact.”

CDCR’s presence at the event proved successful, sparking conversations and generating interest in correctional officer positions at High Desert.
