John Arnold, a retired correctional captain from San Quentin, passed away Dec. 12, 2024. He worked for the department for 27 years.

Arnold began his career with the department at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in September 1996. After graduating, he reported to Avenal State Prison in October 1996. A year later, he transferred to the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran. He promoted to sergeant in December 2001. Arnold then promoted to lieutenant at San Quentin in March 2007. In December 2014, he promoted to captain, retiring nine years later in July 2023.
“He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him,” according to a statement issued by San Quentin Rehabilitation Center.
