Medical staff holds CMF population health fair

CMF health fair shows incarcerated people and medical staff at information tables.

California Medical Facility (CMF) hosted an informational health fair organized by medical staff in mid-December.

Staff got the word out to educate the incarcerated population on a range of topics including high blood pressure, diabetes, nutrition, dental care, immunizations and more.

The population visited multiple booths with varied activities such as checking blood pressure, weight, and blood glucose. Others included immunizations, nutritional education and mental health wellness.

“Sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves while we are focused on doing time,” said one of the incarcerated participants. “This is a good reminder that the goal should be to still be healthy and better when we are done with our sentence.”

Medical staff were on hand to educate and inform the population on everything about health and living a healthy life. Members of the peer support program introduced themselves and assisted attendees on their journey through the CMF gymnasium-turned-convention hall.

Chief Nursing Executive A. Mulumba was pleased with the turn out.

“I think this was a success,” Mulumba said. “Hopefully we can build on this for next year’s event.”
