Carlos “Los” Gonzales, a retired correctional officer, passed away Jan. 25, 2025. He worked for the department for 14 years.
He began his career with the department as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in April 1999. After graduating, he reported to the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad in May 1999.
He dedicated 14 years of service, retiring in 2013.
“Throughout his career, Carlos was known for his unwavering work ethic, professionalism, and dedication. Carlos earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, who viewed him as a reliable, hardworking, and compassionate team member,” according to the institution. “Carlos approached every task with diligence and integrity, leaving a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
Beyond his professional contributions, he was active in his local community. He enjoyed photography, capturing unforgettable moments—from sporting events to local gatherings—and preserving the spirit of the community he loved. His photos became a cherished part of the memories he helped create, and he took immense pride in sharing his work with others.
“Carlos will also be remembered for the warmth and kindness he brought to every interaction. His smile lit up every room, his energy was contagious, and his generosity knew no bounds. Carlos was a mentor, a friend, and someone who always believed in the best of everyone.
“He had a unique gift for making people feel seen, valued, and included. His presence will be deeply missed. As we mourn his loss, we ask all staff to keep Carlos and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time,” according to the institution.
Services for Carlos Gonzales
Rosary services will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St. in Salinas. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the same location. This will be followed by the interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way in Salinas.
