Kristin Barajas, warden’s executive assistant

Kristin Barajas, executive assistant to the warden at Sierra Conservation Center (SCC), passed away Feb. 9, 2025.

According to an SCC announcement, 55-year-old Barajas was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Barajas came to CDCR after years of public service working at a local elementary school.

She began her CDCR career in May 2022 as an office technician-typing at SCC in Jamestown, assigned to the incarcerated person assignment office.

She later promoted to executive assistant in January 2023 in the warden’s office.

Barajas was involved in community

“Kristin was also an active member of SCC’s non-profit employee organization, The Employee and Community Benefit Association. Kristin was a pillar in the community and very well known. She was loved by many, showing her love for others by baking and bringing in treats,” according to a statement issued by SCC. “Kristin will be dearly missed by all who knew her.”

Barajas is survived by her husband, three children, two grandchildren, two sisters, and her mother.

“We extend our most sincere condolences to the Barajas family, loved ones and friends. At this profound time of mourning, the Barajas family has asked for privacy. Please keep the Barajas family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” according to the statement.

Funeral details are not yet available.

“Kristin was a big personality and left an impact on many,” the family said in an online obituary.
