Pedro Meza, a retired correctional counselor II from Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP), passed away Feb. 18, 2025.

Meza started as his career with the department as a correctional officer at the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad in December 1977.
After 11 years, he promoted to correctional sergeant in March 1986. He continued advancing through the ranks, taking on the role of correctional counselor in August 1989 and correctional lieutenant in October 1990.
In January 2002, he promoted to correctional counselor II at SVSP, where he remained until retiring in March 2006.
“He left behind a legacy of professionalism and friendship. The staff at SVSP extends their heartfelt condolences to the family of Pedro Meza,” according to a statement issued by the institution.
Viewing will be from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, March 8, at Liberty Chapel Community Church, 274 Kidder St., Soledad. Burial services will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at Soledad Cemetery, 1711 Metz Rd., Soledad.
