CDCR recruiters from the Peace Officer Recruitment Unit are ramping up the College Outreach Program.
The program demonstrates a commitment to fostering connections with the next generation of professionals by working with colleges throughout California.
Since the start of the spring semester, CDCR peace officer recruiters from various institutions engaged with over 400 college students. This marks a substantial increase in outreach efforts.
The program has successfully partnered with 40 colleges statewide, broadening its network and providing access to a diverse student population. This expansive reach signifies a strong interest from educational departments to collaborate with CDCR.
Speaking with students, touring facilities

The College Outreach Program is set to deliver 32 engaging presentations this semester. These presentations provide students with information about CDCR’s mission, operations, and career pathways. The presentations serve as crucial platforms for dispelling misconceptions and fostering a deeper understanding of the department’s role in public safety.
The program will also facilitate 29 tours, offering students firsthand experiences in CDCR facilities. These tours provide invaluable opportunities to witness the daily operations of the department and gain a realistic perspective on the various career fields available.
“The strong start to the spring semester is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the growing interest from college students in exploring careers within CDCR,” stated Lauren Hieb, co-administrator for the College Outreach Program. “We are committed to building pathways for college students to rewarding careers as Correctional Officers at CDCR.”
The CDCR College Outreach Program plays a vital role in enhancing public awareness of CDCR’s mission and operations. The program provides students with accurate information about career opportunities in corrections, building positive relationships with educational institutions and community partners, and inspiring the next generation of law enforcement.
Peace Officer Recruitment remains dedicated to expanding the reach of the College Outreach Program and continuing to provide valuable educational experiences to college students across California.
